Garrett Stubbs Commits to Play for Team Israel in 2026 World Baseball Classic
NEW YORK, NY – June 25, 2025 – Israel Baseball today announced that Philadelphia Phillies catcher Garrett Stubbs has officially committed to represent Team Israel in the 2026 World Baseball Classic (WBC). Stubbs’ high-profile commitment builds on the exciting momentum generated by Minnesota Twins outfielder Harrison Bader’s earlier announcement in April, further solidifying a formidable roster for the upcoming tournament in Miami.
Stubbs, known for his defensive prowess and energetic play, has been a key component for the Phillies since making his MLB debut. His decision brings significant big-league experience and leadership to the Team Israel clubhouse.
“I’m incredibly excited and honored to represent Israel in the World Baseball Classic,” said Stubbs. “Being able to connect with my heritage on such a global stage, alongside so many talented players, is a truly special opportunity. I’m ready to help Team Israel compete at the highest level.”
Garrett Stubbs discussed his decision and anticipation for the 2026 WBC in an exclusive interview on Eitan Levine’s Jew York Times Podcast. Listen Now!
Harrison Bader, a Gold Glove winner who announced his commitment on April 22nd via the Max Mannis Podcast, also expressed his enthusiasm for joining Team Israel: “The World Baseball Classic is awesome for so many reasons… just getting an opportunity to represent Israel on the baseball side and wearing that uniform, I think, is special for me and my friends and family and a lot of people I love and support tremendously. I think it’ll be a lot of fun, and I’m planning on it being a great experience.”
Team Israel’s participation in the 2026 WBC marks their third appearance in the prestigious international tournament. With elite MLB talent like Bader and Stubbs already committing, the team aims to build on its historic 2017 run and strong 2023 performance.
